How to manually restart your Windows 2003 Server.

If you need to manually restart your Windows 2003 Server for any reason you can follow these steps.

Log into your Windows 2003 Server through Remote Desktop using your administrative login.

Select Start -> Shutdown.

You will then be presented with the shutdown/restart dialog box. Its very important to remember to select "Restart" from the top dropdown. Often it defaults to "Shut Down" which will make your server inaccessible. You will also need to provide a reason for the restart and in some cases a comment is required as well. This will record the reason for the reboot in the event log as well as the comment.
